From: Jerry Hines [jhines@eskimo.com] Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2004 10:28 PM To: jhines@seattletimes.com Subject: Alcan Winter Rally, one more question.. All, Some quick notes, more very soon... We had over 15 votes on the Glenallen vs Fairbanks question, 80% in favor of the Fairbanks/Ice Hotel option. A revised itinerary is posted, total rally miles for day 8 will be 435 (or 555 with Chena Hot Springs), day 9 will be 350. http://www.chenahotsprings.com/icehotel.html * REGULATIONS will be final this week, with one remaining problem to solve: We added GPS to CLASS III in July, but have had numerous questions and staff discussions on laptops. We're proposing the following change: "Class III - Any type vehicle, limited to SOP mileage input. This will be defined as original equipment odometers in the stock location, with NO connection between such "wheel driven" input and any non-OEM device. Calculators, GPS units and laptops are also allowed, but these may NOT be interconnected." Please e-mai ASAP if you have a problem or opinion, we'll finalize soon! Here's the reasoning: It appears many Class III entrants want to bring one, we don't know of any serious "traditional" SOP entry the above rule would handicap and it's too late to add a new class. GPS will play a bigger part in our summer event, and we will add a new class. Such "GPS Equipped" class would probably allow interconnetion between GPS & laptop, but we've ruled this out for now because it would greatly confuse team planning. * ENTRIES have grown, with the addition of 3 BMW X3's. Teams aren't all firm but should include Russ Huntoon, Bailey Taylor and Satch Carlson from BMW's X5 effort in 2000. By the way, ENTRY FEES are also due now if you aren't paid up! (Rooms are limited at Destruction Bay and Eagle Plains, don't take a chance of sleeping in your car...). Trouble keeping track of e-mail updates?
