Thanks for putting this in writing and yes, it's acceptable for press purposes.  Riding with other teams is also allowed per the guidelines in DOCUMENTATION & ELIGIBILITY (4) in the regs at

As you know, this added a greatly to Patricia Murphy's NPR stories in 2002 like

Per our conversation

This is to document my request that Car #1 be given advanced approval to
rerun several TSD Sections as "last car" (as time permits) in order to
provide Ron Ahrens 'seat time' as either a driver or navigator to get a
total experience for his Automobile magazine article. (no need to keep the
controls open for this additional 'run')

It is also possible that he would like to work a couple of checkpoints in
order to understand the 'other side' of the event and get some action
photos.
